Scenario Compare

Compare two scenarios side by side to see what changed between planning alternatives.

Opening the comparison

Navigate to the Scenario Compare page from the scenario panel or project menu.

Selecting scenarios

  1. Use the two dropdown menus to pick the scenarios you want to compare.
  2. The page shows a summary for each scenario: layer count, visible layers, scene mode, lighting, shadows, and camera position.

Reading the diff

The comparison highlights differences between the two scenarios:

  • Layers added — present in one scenario but not the other
  • Layers removed — present in the other but not this one
  • Visibility changes — same layer, different visibility state
  • Style and opacity changes — same layer, different display settings
  • Environment changes — lighting, shadows, scene mode, date, or camera differences
  • Per-layer details — expand to see exactly what differs

What the comparison means

Scenario Compare is a workspace diff. It tells you how two saved scenarios differ in configuration and visible content.

It does not automatically calculate planning impacts. For example, if one scenario contains a taller proposed building, Scenario Compare can show that the building layer or style changed. It does not by itself calculate extra shadow hours, sunlight loss, viewshed change, traffic impact, or environmental exposure.

Opening in the viewer

Click Open in Viewer to enter compare mode. An A/B toggle appears in the viewer, letting you rapidly switch between the two scenarios to see the visual difference directly on the map.

tip

Scenario Compare is especially useful during stakeholder reviews when you need to clearly show what changed between planning alternatives.
