Share Links

Create shareable, read-only links to your project so recipients can view the 3D scene without logging in.

What recipients can do​

Public links open a read-only version of the 3D viewer. Recipients can explore the shared scenarios without needing an AugmentCity account.

The public viewer includes:

  • Timeline controls for time-aware scenarios, including play/pause, scrubbing, loop, and playback speed.
  • Saved scenario playback state, so a scenario that was saved while the timeline was playing opens with the same autoplay setting and speed.
  • Map legend for visible layers that use data-driven colours or building dataset styling.
  • Navigation controls for zooming, returning home, and resetting north.
  • Coordinate and altitude readout in the lower-left corner.
  • Feature information popups when recipients click readable map features.
  • Read-only analytics charts saved with the shared scenario.

Recipients can inspect and present the proposal, but they cannot edit layers, update scenarios, add comments, or change project settings.

What guests see first​

While the shared project loads, guests see its title screen:

  • The organisation's logo. The organisation's name is never shown to guests. Projects in a personal workspace, or an organisation without a logo, show AugmentCity branding instead. Org Owners can add a logo.
  • The link's title, or the project name when the link has none.
  • The project description from project settings, so write a good one.
  • The number of views to explore, when there are several.
  • A "Your feedback is welcome" note, when an engagement campaign is open.
  • A one-line hint on how to move the map (mouse or touch).

On a guest's first visit, the title stays over the map once it has loaded. It clears when they press Explore, touch or scroll the map, or press Escape. The project name then moves into the toolbar. On later visits, the title only shows while the project loads.

The button at the top left of the shared viewer (the organisation's logo, or the AugmentCity logo) brings the title back at any time. The Open in AugmentCity link is in the toolbar on larger screens.

Embedded (iframe) views do not show the title.

Creating a share link​

  1. Click the Share button in the toolbar overflow menu (three dots icon).
  2. Optionally enter a title guests see in place of the project name, and a label to identify the link for yourself. Guests never see the label.
  3. Choose the audience:
    • Public link can be opened by anyone with the URL.
    • Only your organisation requires sign-in as a member of the owning organisation. This option requires a Professional or Enterprise subscription.
  4. Optionally set a password — anyone opening a public link will need to enter it first.
  5. Choose which scenarios to include: all scenarios, or a custom selection.
  6. Set an expiry (1 day, 7 days, 30 days, or no expiry).
  7. Optionally tick Freeze this version to lock in the current scenarios, layer list, layer styles, and sketches — later edits to the project will not appear on this link.
  8. Click Create link.

Freezing only locks the scene description (scenarios, layers, styles, metadata, sketches), not file contents. If a layer's underlying file is edited in place, or a catalog layer is updated to a new published version, a frozen link still shows the new data with the old style. File links themselves keep working normally since access is re-authorised each time the link is opened. A live link can't be frozen after creation, and a frozen link can't be un-frozen — create a new share link for a fresh snapshot.

To share a side-by-side comparison, save a comparison scenario while Split View is active, then include it in the share along with the two scenarios it compares — or choose "All scenarios". A custom selection that includes the comparison scenario but not both of its compared scenarios opens for viewers as a plain single-scenario link, not Split View.

Managing share links​

  • View existing links with their view count, expiry status, and password indicator.
  • Copy the link to your clipboard.
  • Preview the link in a new tab.
  • Copy embed code for an iframe. The generated <iframe> snippet can be pasted into any third-party site — public share embeds send a permissive frame-ancestors policy so they are not restricted to the AugmentCity domain.
  • Generate a QR code for public meetings or printed material.
  • Extend an expired link by 30 days.
  • Delete a link to permanently revoke access.

Organisation-scoped share links are marked with an Org chip. They cannot be embedded or exported as QR codes because viewers must sign in.

Links created with Freeze this version show a Frozen chip in the list.

Security​

  • Password-protected public shares require the correct password before showing any data.
  • After 5 failed password attempts, the link is locked for 15 minutes and project owners receive a notification.
  • Organisation-scoped shares require membership in the owning organisation.
  • Error messages do not reveal whether the share is password-protected.
  • Internal storage paths and project metadata are never exposed to anonymous viewers.

Share links are read-only. Viewers cannot edit layers, add comments, or modify scenarios.

Anyone with the link (and password, if set) can view the project. Use expiry dates for time-sensitive sharing.
